Our Vision and Ambition

                                              Our Vision and Ambition

As an Industrial and Provident Society, Thorncombe Village Shop Association does not, unlike a commercial company, return profit to its shareholders, nor does it pay salaries and bonuses to  Directors.
TVSA is run by volunteers from the community and the shareholders receive no dividend save that  of enjoying the facility of a local shop.
After meeting the annual commitment to enable Thorncombe Parish Council to service the loan from WDDC, any surplus TVSA achieves, is currently invested back into the shop.
The loan taken out with WDDC is due to be redeemed in March 2029. After that date it will be the responsibility of the elected representatives of the community in the form of the Parish Council and of the TVSA Committee (also elected democratically from the community by the shareholders) to negotiate a mutually acceptable rental figure based on what surplus is considered to be available after securing the ongoing viability of the business. That agreed rental figure will be the income that the Parish Council will have, over and above the annual Precept. This additional income will be available for the Parish Council to spend in and on the community, as the Council sees fit.
And so, just the simple act of buying produce from the shop will go towards the raising of funds for the inhabitants of Thorncombe Parish.
This must be something worth supporting, by residents and visitors alike, knowing that the profit margin charged on produce is being used for the good of the community. A really positive outcome for all!
